Thu, 2025-01-30 11:23 — mike kraft
Storms Are Getting Bigger With Climate Change. A New Flood Study Offers One Region Ideas to Prepare In southeastern Pennsylvania, Hurricane Ida in 2021 was a preview of a flood-prone future. A report recommends construction projects and other fixes to save lives and property. Derek Harrison Inside Climate News

The outlook for more climate-related flooding in a southeastern Pennsylvania watershed has prompted a new call for measures to contain heavy rains, allow raging waters to pass downstream and help the public anticipate bigger and more frequent storms.

Study shows how smart climate change and other policies could address competing land use needs.

Tue, 2024-11-26 17:19 — mike kraft
Is there enough land on Earth to fight climate change and feed the world? An MIT-led study shows that there is enough land to support efforts to cap global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius while addressing competing needs for long-term food security and ecosystem health. MIT News | Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The team finds that with transformative changes in policy, land management practices, and consumption patterns, global land is sufficient to provide a sustainable supply of food and ecosystem services throughout this century while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with the 1.5 C goal.

Restoring Environmental Rules Rolled Back by Trump Could Take Years

Fri, 2021-01-22 12:26 — mike kraft

WASHINGTON — President Biden, vowing to restore environmental protections frayed over the past four years, has ordered the review of more than 100 rules and regulations on air, water, public lands, endangered species and climate change that were weakened or rolled back by his predecessor.

But legal experts warn that it could take two to three years — and in some cases, most of Mr. Biden’s term — to put many of the old rules back in place.
