Light Our Way To Recovery is a candlelight commemorative gathering of the constituents of the Canarsie community, one of the many disaster impacted communities on the Eastern USA coastline. This event is given in remembrance of those persons who lost their lives as a result of Hurricane Sandy; to honor the people who volunteered and who continue to help; to highlight the need for support for Canarsie disaster victims who continue to struggle to rebuild, recover and survive the emotional maelstrom caused by the life changing events of October 29th 2012.
All are invited including residents, local businesses, not for profit organizations, volunteers and governmental officials and agencies supporting the rebuilding effort in Canarsie. The event begins on Tuesday October 29th, 2013 at 6:30pm and the candle lighting ceremony will take place at 7:45pm in harmony with other commerative gatherings in the impacted communities. We had hoped to have the gathering but due to the US government shut down and safety issues we will not be able to gather at Canarsie Pier as first envisioned. We are grateful for all the support we have received but we still have a long way to go but as a united community we will successful rebuilding a stronger, more resilient and sustainable community. Please join us at the Seaview Avenue & 84th Street Entrance to Canarsie Park.
